NHL All-Star Game Weekend

I watched a little bit of the NHL All-Start game weekend. Well mostly the skills competition and part of the first period. The NHL really needs to rethink the format. This game of shinny with no intensity is just plain boring (the reason I stopped watching after 10 minutes). They need to award points for the game. Here are some suggestions:

East vs West and the team that wins give 2 pts to all team in their conference. That could make a difference come president trophy time. A little bit like how it is done in baseball.
Do like they used to do in the past and have the stanley cup champions play against the all star and award two points to the stanley cup champions if they win. For example, this year the Blackhawks would have played the all-star and since this year the Hawks are fighting to stay alive, they would want the 2 points. You could bet the Sedin twins and Kesler would like nothing better than for the Hawks to miss the playoffs.

Hopefully that would bring some intensity back in the game. Also was it just me but was the TV coverage of the skills competition just awful? They missed a few players hardest shot attempts, on some occasions for the accuracy shot, you couldn’t see the all the targets.

Glad to see that. If I was paying money to see the Caps and they were playing like they are currently, I would want someone to step in and smack some sense into them.

Hockey Night in Canada Going 3D!

I guess it was just a matter of time but Hockey Night in Canada is going 3D. I always thought that sports would be a good use of 3D. More so than movies. You put the proper headset on and you can more or less feel like you are in the stands. Very cool. Give it a few more years before they have a machine like they had in Total Recall or Vanilla Sky. Actually with the advancement in Google Street View and 3D, I believe that you will eventually get to travel to other countries without having to leave your house. Same thing for time travel. Oh and I won’t be buying a 3D TV for a while, my eyes have enough screens to look at without having to also put glasses on. 3D gives me a headache after a while.

I’ve been enjoying watching olympic hockey the last few days even when Canada got tumped by Sweden. Here is a little transcript adaptation from Pulp Fiction (my wife’s idea):

Last World Cup Pool Update

ok I know I am over a week late but I was on holidays last week. I got to watch the finals in a “lounge” at a McDonalds in Woodburn OR. Good thing my kids were enjoying the play area.

Well as expected, there was not going to be any changes at the top but some of the lower positions changed and for bragging rights purposes, here are the final results:
